January 6, 2017- Kathmandu
Carrying huge amount of gold is not permitted through the air transport and is considered illegal. Normal passengers cannot take gold except for their personal use.
But, recently, Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has confiscated 33 kilograms of illegal gold at the Golden gate of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
The illicit gold was transported to Kathmandu via Air Arabia which had questionably passed through the customs of the airport was being taken to a safe place when it was found out.
The illegitimate gold was brought by Gopal Bahadur Shahi from UAE and he was running off through a leased taxi when the police officers searched the vehicle and the gold was found out.
The Investigation Officers had also called two more involved people who were supposed to take the gold in the crime after the interrogation with Shahi, namely Dinabandhu Thapa belonging to Morang and Santosh Kafle of Dhanusha.
There were 244 biscuits each of 10 tolas, 18 chains and 11 rings which were wrapped in black polythene bags and hidden inside two separate luggages.
But the major concern is about the clearance of such big amount of gold from the customs department at the airport.
Previously too such incidents of gold capture had occurred and a big question arises for the airport authority to find out who were lethal on the crimes happening at the airport.
