The then Tourism Minister Late. Rabindra Adhikari, who played a vital role in boosting up the construction of Pokhara International Airport, Gautam Buddha International airport as well as played a significant role in changing the structure of Nepalese Aviation, was remembered by newly appointed Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai during his first visit to under construction Pokhara International Airport yesterday morning.
It was only after Late Minister Adhikari took the seat of Tourism Minister, major changes in tourism and aviation sector were observed. The changes in the only international airport Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was brought in his initiation. Rehabilitation of runways and helipads of many airports all around the country including TIA were all from his generous efforts. Also Introduction of Tourism Year and his dedicated preparations since the time that can still be observed with rapid enhancement of new airports and rehabilitation of Cultural Heritages. His contributions to Nepalese Aviation and Toursim industry in a very short period of his leadership have improvised the aviation of Nepal into a progressive mode.
The construction of Pokhara International Airport located at Pokhara is rapidly progressing on. Minister Bhattarai has urged the construction company to complete the project 6 months prior to deadline to network a positive message to every citizen as well as the authorizes that any projects could be completed if monitored properly. Pokhara Regional International Airport project has attained around 50 percent of physical progress as the construction work has been carried out with the aim of completing it on July 10, 2021.
The construction project of Pokhara International Airport is one of the national pride projects which is being constructed in 3700 ropani land. The construction project of the international airport was started with loan assistance of 22 billion from Exim Bank of China and Chinese company CAMC engineering was awarded for the contract of construction work.
Construction of Pokhara International Airport (at Chinnedanda-3 km to the east of Pokhara’s present domestic airport) was inaugurated with placing foundation stone by then Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on April 13, 2016.
