The number of passengers travelling domestically and internationally has increased with a significant pace.
According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), as compared to the first three months of 2017, the number of air travel has been increased from January to March 2018. Within the first months, the number of international air passengers increased by 15 percent and internal air passengers increased by 19 percent.
Raj Kumar Chhetri, head of the airport stated that from January to March of 2018, a total of 11,4,369 people traveled in various places of the world through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). In the past three months, the number of air passengers arriving from different parts of the world is 5, 60,000. Similarly, in the corresponding period, the number of air passengers traveling to the various cities of the world by the Tribhuvan International Airport is more than 5 lakh 44 thousand. However, in the first three months of 2017, 9,38,843 were international passengers.
Similarly, in the three months of 2018, the number of passengers traveling in various parts of the country has reached 6,10,458 However, from January to March of 2017, the numbers of domestic air travelers was only 4,15,810.
The numbers of flights have been increasing even though there is no progress in the expansion and up gradation project of TIA.
In the first three months of 2018, total of 8,666 international flights have been operated which shows the increase of 6 per cent. However, in the first three months of 2017, 8,148 international flights were conducted.
According to Prem Nath Thakur, Spokesperson of TIA, in the first three months of 2018, compared to 2017, the flight to domestic flight has increased by 7 percent.
According to airport officials, there is no progress in the infrastructure of the airport but the officers have given their best for the smooth and consistent operation.
National flag carrier, Nepal Airline Corporation (NAC) has fallen into the third position of the first three months of 2018, which succeeded in carrying out the most passengers by the TIA on the 2016 in International flight.
