Thai Airways Boeing 777 landed on Runway 20 due to excessive tail wind
March 16, 2017-KATHMANDU
Thai Airways Boeing 777-2D7 (ER) with registration ‘HS-TJW’ landed from Runway 20 at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal at around 3: 55 PM.
According to the TIA Metar, the airport encountered high tail wind (5-20 Knots) which forced the aircraft to make a wide turn and land on the runway 20 at TIA.
Currently the airport has a single 10,007 feet (3,050 m) concrete runway orientated 02/20. The runway 02 has precision approach indicators such as PAPI Lights and approach light but the runway 20 is facilitated with only PAPI lights.
The sole international airport of Nepal does not have Instruments landing system (ILS) however; it has VOR/DME instruments.
