As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Tara Air has been actively supporting the “Waste Management Campaign” in the Solukhumbu region. The company executed this valuable environmental event on Nov. 15 which was managed in collaboration with the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) and the Lukla based Himalayan Club.
In order to maintain the environmental quality of this region, Tara Air with the help of Himalayan Club & SPCC airlifted approximately 11,000 Kg of non-biodegradable waste, operating nine flights from Lukla airport. The approximate cost of this sponsored service by the airline is worth over Rs.10, 00,000 (Rs 10 Lakhs). The airlifted waste has already been handed over to the Kathmandu Municipality Corporation, who will distribute it to the proper recycling centers.
In 2016, Tara Air successfully managed a similar waste management campaign airlifting 12,000 kg of waste from the Solukhumbu region and will continue this exercise into the future.
The airline is confident that this campaign has helped in creating environmental awareness among the youth, the local entrepreneurs, and the tourists who visit this Himalayan region.
This type of initiation is the inspirations for other private enterprises who wish extend their hands in supporting such environmental campaigns in the future.
