Supreme Court of Pakistan temporarily barred PIA from using the new livery on its aircraft

-ISLAMABAD

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Sunday temporarily barred the stated owned flag carrier, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) from using the logo of Markhor on its planes instead of Pakistan national flag.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar wants to know the real reason for changing the livery, and said that the federal government had announced Rs 20 billion bailout package for improving the standard of the airlines.,“The money was not for changing of aircraft’s livery,” he said.

The airline said the cost of changing livery is Rs2.7 million per plane, but the Justice Nisar believes that the cost for each plane would be Rs3.4 million and sought a report detailing tender and contractor information.

Pakistan Flag was originally painted on all PIA planes’ vertical stabiliser. In the new livery the ‘Markhor’ was to be visible on the aircraft tail, while the cockpit integrated Pakistan’s flag, accompanied by PIA – written in English and Urdu.
