Sita Air Dornier DO-228 with registration ‘9N-AHB’ successfully test landed at Juphal Airport, Dolpa today morning at around 7:45 local time. The aircraft took off from Nepalgunj airport at 7:16 am and landed at Juphal Airport at 7:45 am.
The successful test landing at the airport was conducted under the command of Capt. Robin Gauchan, Capt. Kishore Bhattachan, F/O Abin Gauchan along with airhostess Nabina Bista and officials from Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
Sita Air currently operates scheduled flights to Surkhet, Simikot and Jumla from its Nepalgunj base with its Dornier DO-228 aircraft whereas it also conducts flights to Lukla from Kathmandu. With the successful test landing today, the airline is preparing to initiate commercial flights to Juphal airport.
Juphal Airport remained out of operation from 15 June to 7 Sept. 2017 especially for the blacktopping project of its runway. Tara Air Twin Otter ‘9N-ABM’ made a successful test landing at the airport on September 8 after the accomplishment of blacktopping.
The airport is the only medium of transportation for the locals in Dunai, Dolpa so the locals will have quality air service because the runway has been renovated and the airline companies are showing their interest in expanding air service there.
