A Sita Air Dornier DO-228 aircraft made an emergency landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, at around 12: 50 PM today, fight outbound from Lukla to Kathmandu.
The crew members deliberately switched to one engine operation, after 10 minutes of takeoff from lukla as the aircraft’s another engine was suffering from malfunction during taxing at Lukla airport.
The intentional single engine landing at TIA successfully had a safe landing by the crew even though it was at the edge of risk to make such attempt. The aircraft had being piloted by Captain B.K. Shah which had three crew members along with four technicians onboard.
The left engine was shut down, feathered and the pilots landed with only one right engine on TIA, and as per witness, the landing was very smooth lead neither any injuries nor any damage to aircraft.
There is a huge responsibility of pilot while landing a multi-engine aircraft in only one engine. The proper piloting and decision of pilots saved all the life on board and the malfunctioning aircraft itself.
The flight engineers are carrying inspection on plane at the domestic ramp of Tribhuvan International Airport right now for the fixing of malfunctionaing engine.
Currently, Sita Air has two Do-228’s aircraft under it’s fleet and has been conducting flights to nine remote and STOL destinations of Nepal
