Sita Air successfully test lands at Rumjatar Airport

Sita Air Dornier DO-228 with registration ‘9N-AIE’ successfully test landed at Rumjatar Airport, Okhaldhunga yesterday morning (September 28, 2018)  at around 10:06 AM Local Time. The aircraft took off for Rumjatar Airport from Tribhuvan International Airport at 09:40 AM Local Time.

According to the airline officials, the successful test landing at the airport was conducted under the command of Capt. Robin Gauchan, Capt. Kishore Bhattachan. The other crew members on board were Cabin Crew Gauri K.C, Flight Dispatcher, Senior Engineer & Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Flight Safety Standard Department representative Mr. Bardhan Baral were jointly on the test flight.

With the successful test landing the 19-seater Dornier D0-228, the airline is preparing to initiate commercial flights to Rumjatar Airport. The airline had planned to operate its commercial flight in package which includes flight from Kathmandu to Rumjatar from Sita Air and fro Rumjatar Airport to Lukla and other remote destination by Mountain Air Helicopter from Rumjatar Airport. Mountain Helicopter is the sister associate of Sita Air.

Sita Air Pvt. Ltd. was established in October 2000 and started its first commercial flight in 6 February 2003 with the single German built Dornier DO-228 aircraft. Today the airline has four Dornier DO-228 Aircraft’s. The airline regularly operates its flight to the STOL airfields to the remote mountain location of Nepal catering to visit international tourists as well as locals. Sita Air is currently indulging its services (passengers and cargo) to the following domestic destinations with its Dornier DO-228 aircraft.

Rumjatar Airport, located at an elevation of 4462 feet above mean sea level at Okhaldhunga district has been out of service for a year. The airport has Single Bituminous Paved (Asphalt Concrete) runway of 548 m x 30 m of a length aligned to 017 degrees and 350 degrees. The airport has the Parking Capacity of Three Small Aircrafts of D0-228, DHC6, L410, Y12 and C208 type
