Sita Air is preparing to launch direct flight services from Surkhet to the remote regions of Karnali district including Jumla, Humla, Mugu and Dolpa.
The domestic airline company has announced to operate direct flights from Surkhet airport starting from Ashar, 2075.
The commitment paper was signed by the official from Sita Air and the authorities at the Surkhet under the presence of Chief Minister, minister for industry, tourism, forest and environment.
The commitment paper describes that Sita Air will be conducting flights to remote regions at Karnali from Surkhet with Dornier DO228 aircraft. Previously, Sita was conducting flights from Nepalgunj Airport.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Mr. Rabindra Adhikari said that the commitment made by Sita Air is highly appreciable and the civil aviation authority will be approving flight schedule soon as the direct flight could happen from 1st of Ashar, 2075.
The air passengers wanting to reach Surkhet from the remote regions will get some relief as they don’t have to travel Nepalgunj to reach Surkhet.
Managing Director of Sita Air Mr. Ghanashyam Acharya said that the airfare will also be reasonable for the direct flights from Surkhet.
Sita Air currently operates scheduled flights to Surkhet, Simikot and Jumla from its Nepalgunj base with its Dornier DO-228 aircraft whereas it also conducts flights to Lukla from Kathmandu.
Established in during the political chaos in the country, Sita Air has been conducting air service in the country for around 13 years. Though the airlines got its air operators certificate (AOC) in 2000, it couldn’t conduct flights till 2003. The operations started on 6th of February, 2003 with a single Dornier Do 228 and later another aircraft was added in April 2003. At present, the airline owns 3 Dornier DO-228 aircraft.
