Management committee of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has halted all flights of saurya Airlines from today (December 6) on wards. TIA halted all of the carriers operation since the airline was unable to pay the dues.
The airline had promised to pay the dues to the airport for a long time and after the airline was unable to pay the due amount, the airport had been decreasing the operation hour of the airline.
The airport has stated to provide approval to operate flight only after the airlines pays the minimum amount the airport has demanded. Saurya Airline has more than NRs. 30 million due that the airport had been demanding for more than a year.
The airport has currently demanded around 2.5 million rupees immediately so that the airline can recommence the operation stated TIA official.
The airport officials have stated that the airlines officials are in contact and have stated to pay the dues by Monday.
There is provision of halting flights of any carrier that delays the payment of airport charges under Airport Service Charge Regulation 2067.
The carrier has been going through tough times and had stated about cancellation of flights in its social media site.
The airline is the first to introduce Jet engine aircraft for domestic carrier and currently had been operating with only one CRJ-200 aircraft out of 2 similar series aircraft. The airline had been stating about adding more aircrafts to its fleet despite the fact that they had dues left to the airport.
Saurya Airlines stated it will be operating to Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Janakpur, Rajbiraj and other potential areas after addition of new aircrafts. Lately, Saurya Airlines had been conducting flights to Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Nepagunj, Bhadrapur and Dhangadi. Saurya Airlines had been conducting 5 flights a day.
