Russia’s MC-21 Maiden Flight Set for April
March 22, 2017
The Russian new jet liner MC-21 expected to be the competitor of Boeing and Airbus is about to conduct maiden flight this April.
MC-21 (Russian “long-haul aircraft of the 21st century”) is manufactured and designed by Russian plane-maker Irkutsk, a member of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). The new aircraft is intended to be the substitute of narrow-body aircraft Tu-154s and Tu-204s on the Russian market. The prototype of first MC-21 aircraft was displayed in summer 2016.
The MC-21 jet has two versions namely MC-21-200 with 132-165 seat capacities and MC-21-300 with 163-211 seat capacities.
The Russian aircraft will be rivaled by Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. Besides, Chinese COMAC C919 (on course for a maiden flight in 2017) will also compete with MC-21.
