The runway renovation project of Jumla Airport which started from first week of this New Year has almost completed. The airport is was closed since 5th Baisakh for necessary runway renovation and airport enhancement project.
The airport had undergone renovation previously on 8th Kartik, 2075 and the remaining work had been scheduled to be completed by this week.
The airport was expected to be shut down for a maximum of 20 days for the completion of renovation works. The maintenance and enhancement of the STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) airport hadn’t been able to initiate since 2040 BS.
The frequent ruptures and growth of grasses in the runway created difficulty for take-off and landing. The airlines operating flights to Jumla Airport are Tara Air, Sita Air, Summit Air and Nepal Airlines Corporation.
The runway length of Jumla Airport is 670 meter which accommodates Twin Otter and Dornier aircraft.
The closure of the airport impacted flights to Surkhet and Nepalgunj. The closest airports to Jumla are Juphal Airport at Dolpa, Bajura Airport at Bajura and Rukumkot Chaurjahari Airport at Rukumkot.
