Rumjatar airport back in operation

Rumjatar Airport, located at Okhaldhunga district has come into operation. The airport has been out of operation since last 3 years.

Now, with 1 flight from flag carrier Nepal Airlines (NAC), the airport is set to resume the flight operation.

The flight will be operated in Kathmandu-Rumjatar- Biratnagar sector weekly starting from today on wards. The airport is set to be brought back into operation with a view to connect to capital city with province capital Biratnagar.

The only airport in the district, Rumjatar Airport had been out of operation since past 3 years after airlines operating to airport cancelled its flights and though there was some hint of airport coming back to operation, the airport couldn’t come back into operation.

As per corporation official at the airport, the corporation will be operating 1 weekly flight on Friday and will increase flights after consulting with local government and the number of passengers.

Peoples at Rumjatar are happy with the re-operation of the flights and the airport re-operation is expected to promote the tourism destination around the location.

After four decades of operation, the airport’s runway was blacktopped. Nepal Airlines and Tara air used to conduct scheduled flight in the airport.

Passengers have been using Ghurmi-Khurkhet highway roads as alternative.

Rumjatar Airport, located at an elevation of 4,462 feet above mean sea level at Okhaldhunga district has been out of service for a year. The airport has Single Bituminous Paved (Asphalt Concrete) runway of 548 m x 30 m of a length aligned to 017 degrees and 350 degrees. The airport has the Parking Capacity of Three Small Aircrafts of D0-228, DHC6, L410, Y12 and C208 type.
