The authorities are planning to blacktop the runway of Reshunga Airport located at Gulmi, State 5.
The process of blacktopping the runway was initiated as the test flight was conducted on May last year.
There was a doubt that the flight operation at Gulmi be limited only to test flights following raw runway. However, after the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) called for tender, local are expecting to see regular flights at the sky of Gulmi.
Madhu Krishna Panta, Chairman of Chhatrakot Rural Municipality stated that CAAN took a tender of Rs 13 crore. According to him, the contractors will blacktop the runway based on the competition.
“There is no doubt about regular flight now,” he said, “there will be regular flight conducted as soon as after completing the blacktopping work.”
Tara Air conducted test flight with its Twin-otter aircraft last year.
Panta informed that the distribution of land compensation to 46 landowners had been completed.
Talking about the starting phase of the construction of the airport, representatives of the Gulmi area number 1 and the Home Minister Pradip Gyawali said that the discussion is going on to operate the regular flight from the district. In 2062, Former Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Pradip Gyawali inaugurated the airport. 14 years after the inauguration, the runway is going to be blacktopped.
Gyawali also said that the discussion regarding the flight service from Kathmandu and Bhairahawa is going on.
Around 120 million has been spent for the construction of the airport which features runway with length 620m and 30m width.
