The necessary renovation works for Nepalgunj Airport located at Banke District has been started.
According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the renovation project was started from Monday.
The flight operation has been stopped from 3-6 PM since Monday as the renovation work is progressing. The ongoing project is overlapping the existing runway with the blacktopping. The project is due to finish within 35 days as the project will be conducted for 15 hours a day.
According to the rules, the runway of airport should be renovated during the period of 5 to 7 years. The essential renovation of 1500 meters long runway of Nepalgunj Airport will be accmoplished as per the project plan.
The construction work is handover to Pappu construction which is working at the estimated cost of Nrs 130 million.
Due to the adverse weather, the visibility is low in the morning while the airport is closed at the evening which has been directly affecting the flights. Apart from the weather reason, evening flights have been moved to afternoon from 6 am to 3 pm and the airlines are preparing to conduct their evening flights Nepalgunj-Kathmandu route at daytime.
Nepalgunj Airport has been handling around 20 flights daily flying from Kathmandu, Simikot and from Karnali zone.
