Rapid increase of fare in Delhi-Kathmandu air route

The rate of air ticket of Kathmandu-Delhi route has increased three times.

After Indian Airline Company, Jet Airways suspended its flight operation; air freight has increased rapidly in this route. Jet Airways had been providing air services to 168 passengers in each flight.

Currently, around 500 passengers have increased in other airlines in daily basis. Kathmandu-Delhi air route is a profitable destination for airline companies. However, other airline companies are not able to increase flight frequency in this route.

Yam Bahadur Khadka, Managing director of Aerolina Travels & Tours stated that it is difficult to get ticket of one week. According to him, the rate of ticket was Rs 8000/9000 but at the present time it costs around Rs 28000.

Jet Airways carry second highest passengers after Nepal Airline Corporation (NAC). Jet Airways carried 4,50,949 passengers in 2018 and was ranked second in the list of airline company to give international air services from Nepal. It operated 3,138 flights carrying 2,24,000 passengers from Kathmandu and brought 2,26,458 passengers to Kathmandu.

Similarly, the corporation is preparing to increase flight frequencies to New Delhi, India. The corporation operating 11 flights in a week, will add 3 flights from May 1, 2019.

According to NAC Assistant Spokesperson, Nawaraj Koirala, the corporation will operate 2 flights daily after adding 3 flights to Delhi.

In the morning, NAC will operate with its narrow body aircraft having 158 seat capacity and the second flight will be operated by widebody aircraft having 278 seat capacity.

Currently, Air India has been operating 2 flights daily from Kolkata and Delhi to Kathmandu whereas Druk air of Bhutan has been operating 3 flights weekly.
