Tourism businessmen have requested the government to give the name of Late Tourism Minister, Rabindra Adhiakri in under construction Pokhara International Airport.
Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC) issued a release demanding to change the name of Pokhara airport to “Rabindra International Airport” in the memory of him.
PTC President Chiranjivi Pokharel stated that Late Minister Adhikari was a popular youth minister who was focused in development and tourism and the construction work of Pokhara Airport was speeded under his initiative. He said that in respect of him, the airport of Pokhara should be named as Rabindra International Airport.
Air Dynasty Helicopter registered ‘9N-AMI’ flying to Taplejung for inspection of the possibility of construction of airport in Chuhandada, Terathum under the command of Capt. Pravakar K.C. carrying Honorable Minister Rabindra Adhikari, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) and 6 other passengers on board crashed and the aircraft was engulfed with flames following the crash on February 27, 2019.
That day was a black day for Nepali aviation sector as it loss Minister Adhikari and other 6 high delegates who have played great role in flourishing tourism and aviation sector.
Late Minister Adhikari had assigned and completed a lot of aviation development activities and initiatives to uplift the standard of Aviation of the country.
Unfortunately, he passed away while doing his duty, when he was returning Kathmandu after having studied the feasibility report for construction of new airport in Chuhandanda of Terathum. The previous day he had inspected the runway of TIA which is soon going to be blacktopped. The blacktopping of the runway is getting done after 44 years of reconstruction in 1975 only under his initiative.
Minister Adhikari had progressed his 100 days’ strategic plan to bring a maximum positive change in the aviation and tourism industry of the country.
