It has already been more than 9 years that the Bajhang Airport is out of operation however; the proposal of re-opening and upgrading the airport has been drafted to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on 7th August, 2017. The proposal was submitted to the Honorable Minister Jitendra Narayan Dev by the dealers from the district to re-operate the airport as soon as possible.
The written proposal of blacktopping and conducting flight operations at Bajhang Airport was filed to the Honorable Minister jointly by the Far-western road construction department, engineers along with the constitutional representatives and media personnel. Honorable Minister Dev on receiving the proposal committed to bring the airport into operation within his working tenure.
Currently, the locals at Bajhang are facing transportation problems following the repeated obstruction of only one highway connecting the district. The constitutional representatives from the district have urged to re-operate Bajhang Airport soon. Previously, the locals and the authorities frequently requested to operate the airport but there was no any concern.
The roadway to Kailash Mansarovar (a famous pilgrimage site for Hindus) is comfortable from Bajhang and also covers short distance. So, the authorities from Bajhang quotes the operation of airport is necessary. At present, Simikot Airport is handling all the flight pressures building up due to the increasing number of travellers for Kailash Mansarovar Trek.
According to the local authorities, the blacktopping of Bajhang Airport will attract private airline operators and enhance the standard of flight operation.
