A preliminary study to find probability of constructing an airport at Damodor Kunda Village Development Committee in Upper Mustang has been carried out. The pre-study at the site was carried out in leadership of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal’s (CAAN) engineer Pushpa Raj Neupane for finding probability to construct ‘Charang Airport’.
Officials of the VDC stated that the airport is going to be constructed to help easy transportation of the locals as well as tourists. Local people and tourists have to face much difficulty in travelling to Upper Mustang from Lower mustang due to rough terrain.
The primary study has shown that the area is suitable for construction of the airport and the land where the airport will be constructed is of government, stated CAAN information officer Trilochan Poudel. The airport which will be constructed at 3560 meter height will help to locals, tourists as well as for rescue purpose, he added.
Mr. Poudel also stated that the airport runway will be of 1000 meter length and will have both way landing. Further process over the airport project will be carried out soon.
The area beyond Himalaya with rough terrains is a paradise for many tourists but lack of good roadways and unavailability of other means of transport has been problematic for them. The area is also popular for Tibetan culture with historical monuments and architects.
