Pokhara Regional International Airport project has attained 35 percent of physical progress as the construction work has been carried out with the aim of completing it on July 10, 2021.
The international airport project in Pokhara has completed the construction of the runway. After commencing the construction work 15 months ago, the runway of Pokhara International Airport is now readily constructed.
At the same time, the terminal building of airport, apron, taxi parking area, drainage and Hangar construction and other infrastructure of the project are going on.
Krishna Prasad Poudel, Senior Engineer of the airport construction project stated that emergency landings could be done on the runway. 35 per cent important physical progress has been completed, he said.
He also urged that nearly 60 per cent work will be completed within 2019 whereas all the construction work will be done by 2020.
There are 450 workers where 200 Chinese workers and 250 Nepalese workers are getting engaged in the construction work.
Pokhara International Airport is being constructed under the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) model. Under an EPC contract, a single contractor takes duty for all components like design, engineering, construction and procurement.
The airport will have the runway of 2500 meters long and 45 meters wide where Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 can operate flight. The Airport will have a 1200 meters long and 23 meters wide taxi-way which connect the runway with hangars, terminals and parking bays. The airport will have a 10,000 square-metre international terminal building and a 4,000 square-metre domestic terminal building.
The construction project of Pokhara International Airport is one of the national pride projects which is being constructed in 3700 ropani land.
The construction project of the international airport was started with loan assistance of 22 billion from Exim Bank of China and Chinese company CAMC engineering was awarded for the contract of construction work.
Construction of Pokhara International Airport (at Chinnedanda-3 km to the east of Pokhara’s present domestic airport) was inaugurated with placing foundation stone by then Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on April 13, 2016.
