Crash landed giant Airbus A330-303 of the Turkish Airlines
Peculiarity noted around the east helipad after the incident of helicopter of Shree Airlines
Kathmandu – 06 November 2016
The incident that took place a day before in the east helipad of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has made to take the notice of the peculiar practice at TIA’s east helipad.
The helipad which consists the earlier crash landed giant Airbus A330-303 of the Turkish Airlines but soon to be taken out and incorporated in the museum which will be built around Kathmandu which was earlier bought by pilot Capt. Bed Upreti, has covered most of the ground space of the east helipad.
The helicopter of Shree Airlines which was parked at the same helipad near to the huge aircraft got stuck to the protector and back-head take off and unfortunately tail hit the ground followed by the crack on the lower vertical fin of the tail portion.
Though the incident turned out not dangerous but it had all the potential to be a perilous one.
The aircraft could have crashed or it could have gotten stuck to the giant Airbus nearby. In fact, parking at the east helipad will still be the risk until the aircraft of the Turkish Airlines is not removed.
Here the question arises if the helicopter companies do not have any other option regarding the parking area. But, the Turkish Airlines had earlier made an optional helipad near the hangar of Buddha Air compensating for the ground space it has occupied. But, the major question lies in the fact that TIA is not using the helipad entirely that was constructed by the Turkish Airlines which can accommodate almost eight helicopters and is just nearby to the east helipad. Why is the helipad not being used? Is the helipad is difficult to access? Apparently, it’s not. It’s been only used when the east helipad is completely occupied. These questions have to be answered and the problems in the east helipad must be mitigated as soon as possible.
