New Int’l Airport and air routes could be a game changer for Nepal tourism

With the ongoing projects of constructing Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) at Bhairahawa has led Nepali entrepreneurs to invest in hotel industries. Located near Lumbini, birth place of Gautam Buddha and also being near to Butwal, capital city of province 5 has led entrepreneurs to invest in the district and nearby areas.

With the increase in development process around the area and operation of international airport, existing hotels and infrastructures won’t be able to accommodate guests so investment in hotels are required says Tourism entrepreneur Madhav Nepal.

Province 5 is celebrating 2019 as Tourism year and GBIA is also set to commence its operation from the year. Provincial government is also planning to operate tourist bus between Jitgadhi fort, Devdaha, Ramagram and Tilaurakot.

Various tourism professionals have stated that establishment of international airport has been the major reason for entrepreneurs to invest in the district. Numbers of star-rated hotels are also increasing in the area due to it.

Tourists from different countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, China, India, Maldives, and Bhutan come to Nepal just to visit Lumbini and promoting other areas except Lumbini will also be helpful to promote tourism.

Similarly, direct air link between Nepalgunj of West Nepal and capital of India New Delhi is also set to boost economic development as it will also help to increase trade connectivity between two countries stated Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI). The route would also be used as entry point for the Kailash Mansarovar tour, which is popular among Hindu devotees of India.
