New Helipad to be constructed at Lukla Airport

Tenzing-Hillary Airport, named as the most dangerous airport in the world located in Lukla, a remote region of the country also the gateway to Everest had been congested with insufficient parking constantly.

The airport, which is located at a high elevation and is also the gateway to Mt. Everest, has been troubled with small parking space, stated officials from airport station. The airport jointly with CAAN has come up with a decision to built additional helipad to overcome parking problem, he added.

According to Sanjiv Gautam, CAAN Director General the new helipad will be constructed by procuring 10 ropanies of land near airport premises. He also noted that the land procuring step will be completed by next week and the construction work will start by the next fiscal year.

The existing helipad at Lukla which poses a safety threat will be destructed to construct additional four parking bays for domestic aircraft.

At peak season, the airport has been noted to have 105flights per day. The airport is only the gateway to Mount Everest.
