Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel presented the yearly budget plan for the fiscal year 2021/22 on Saturday. The budget proposal, which totals Rs 1.647 trillion, includes few ambitious aviation projects while also repeating several unimplemented programs from previous years.
Nepal Airlines
Nepal Airlines Corporation will be restructured and made commercial and competitive. The process of recruiting strategic partners will be started through open competition. The share capital structure of the corporation will be changed and increased.
Nijgadh International Airport
The budget covers the Nijgadh International Airport Extension Project, Investment Structure, and International Investor Selection. The task for land acquisition, site clearing, and pre-development will be completed within the next fiscal year.
Tribhuvan International Airport
The government has decided to transform Tribhuvan International Airport into a boutique airport. The budget address for expanding the taxiway, parking bay, and terminal building renovation at Tribhuvan International Airport. Six billion nine hundred fifty million rupees (6 Arba 95 corer) have been set aside for this purpose.
Pokhara International Airport
The remaining construction for Pokhara International Airport will be finished as soon as possible, and operations will begin within the next fiscal year. The government has allocated three billion five hundred thirty million rupees (three Arba 53 corer).
Domestic Airport
Work on the domestic airport expansion, refurbishment, and modernization will continue. There will be a test flight to Sukilumba, Illam, Simichaur, Gulmi, and Masinchaur in Dolpa.
Enhancement on the physical infrastructure at Chandragadi, Rajbiraj, Tumlingtar, Janakpur, Dhangadi, Swarrghakhanchi, Swargadwari, Patan, and Daharchula. Surkhet and Bharatpur airports will be expanded. The budget has addressed the construction of a new terminal building for Nepalgunj and Biratnagar. The construction of a new airport in Dang, Narayanpur, will proceed. The government has agreed to fund Rs one billion three hundred thirty million rupees (1 Arba 33 corer) towards domestic airports.
Khiji Chandeshwari airport of Okhaldunga will be functional. The runway at Sukhetar, Taplejung Airport will be extended, while the building on Terathum, Chuhandanda Airport will continue. Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2021/22, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel said that Suketar Airport in Tapjejung would be renamed as Rabindra Airport, and Chuwan Danda Airport in Tehrathum would be renamed as Ang Tshering Sherpa Airport.
Helipads
The government has chosen to construct more helipads in the local community for emergency services and medical resources.
