NAC connects Surkhet Airport from capital city with Chinese aircraft Y12e

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), the stated owned flag carrier has started its schedule direct flights service to Surkhet Airport from April 8 (today).

Through the flag carrier on April 4 had successfully conducted its test flight. Previously the carrier had announced to operate direct flights from Kathmandu to Surkhet starting from New Year but unexpectedly the scheduled flight started from today.

According to the NAC officials, the 17 seater Harbin Y12e ‘9N-AKS’ aircraft under the command of Captain Nependra Bhattrai, First Officers Srijana Raut and Rakesh Kafle flew from Tribhuvan International Airport to  Surkhet Airport today.

The flag carrier operates Chinese manufactured Harbin Y12e aircraft to connect between the two cities once in a week. Previously, NAC Spokesperson Mr. Rabindra Shrestha reported Aviation Nepal that the flag carrier will be conducting one flight in a week that is on Sunday. “The corporation has allocated air ticket price of Nrs 7500 for Kathmandu to Surkhet flights for a one way travel,” he added.

Similarly, Buddha Air is also preparing for direct flights to Surkhet Airport from Kathmandu beginning from 14 April 2018 (1 Baisakh 2075). The airline will be conducting daily flight to Surkhet from Kathmandu allocating ticket price that will be starting from Rs8500 and it will also specify lower airfare subject to availability.

Surkhet Airport is situated at Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet District, Province No. 6. It is one of the moderately busy airports of Nepal, serves most of the remote sectors of the western part of the country with whole Karnali zone – Jumla, Humla, Kalikot, Mugu and Dolpa – together with Bajura and at times Rukum as well. This airport is strategically important for the transportation of food grains, clothes, medicines, iodine-mixed salt, construction materials, office goods, school materials like books and stationeries as well as other commercial goods.

The aerodrome features a single asphalt concrete runway with Dimension 1255 m x 30 m and orientation of 02/20. The apron of the airport can accommodate 5 aircraft at a time like B190, D228, DHC6, L410, Y12, C208.
