Nationals Flag Carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation’s Canadian made turboprop aircraft Twin-Otter with registration ‘9N-ABX’ was intentionally grounded by Nepal Airlines in their Hangar at Tribhuvan International Airport 5 years back.

According to the Engineering Director of NAC Mr. Posak Gawali, the grounded aircraft will shortly swap the new engine along with the wing modification, installation of Terrain Awareness and warning system (TAWS) Instrument on the grounded aircraft.

The wing modification maintenance job will be carried out by the European EASA Licensed Engineers with the joint assistant of Nepali Engineers.

An engine was brought earlier by Nepal Airlines in November last year to update the ‘9N-ABX’ Twin Otter aircraft. But later the engine of another Twin Otter ‘9N-ABT’ failed at Nepalgunj so, the engine brought for ‘9N-ABX’ was used in ‘9N-ABT’ the aircraft.

He also added that the grounded Twin Otter will resume its service shortly from coming new financial year 2074-75. The aircraft has been conducting STOL flight for Nepal Airlines since past 32 years.

Currently, Nepal Airlines is conducting domestic flights with Two MA-60 and one Y-12e Chinese made aircraft along with two Canadian built Twin Otter aircraft
