Missing Aviastar Twin Otter DHC-6 once again highlights Indonesia’s struggling aviation safety efforts

Candian Company made Aviastar DHC-6: twin Otter light weight aircraft (34 years old) run by Indonesia’s Aviastar airline routed from Masamba to Makassar carrying 10 people on board including 3 crew members lost contact with ATC shortly after takeoff when the aircraft was cruising at 8,000ft on Oct 2nd, Friday.

The job to locate the missing plane is assigned to the Barsanas situated: National Search and Rescue Agency. The recue team is led by Chief Bambang Soelistyo with his 125 members. They started to conduct their search on both land and air but have failed to deliver any results until now. They are expecting some help from their neighboring countries to widen their search area. The high mountain terrains and dense forests are making the search effort extremely difficult.
