Ministry of Finance has agreed for two models for the construction project of Second International Airport (SIA) at Nijgadh.
Four months ago, Ministry of culture, tourism and Civil aviation had recommended Public-Private Partnership model (PPP) and Engineering Procurement Construction Financing model (EPCF)
After having a long discussion, the issue of constructing airport in appropriate model has not been decided yet.
With the consent of ministry of finance, the Ministry of tourism will adopt one of these models.
The ministry formed a Modality Committee on joint cooperation with Secretary Suresh Acharya . The committee has recommended two models to Minister Jitendra Narayan Dev on Ashoj month.
The Modality committee has suggested that both models should be appropriate after the study for two months.
According to the source, Secretary Minister, Maheswar Neupane stated that the approval has come from the Ministry of Finance and the experts will follow the process by implementing the module. In 2064, ministry council decided Landmark Worldwide Company (LMW), Korean Company to make a detail project study report.
In 2065, LMW submitted report with the objective of completing the first phase of work in 2070.
But there was a dispute after KP Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister made decision to make domestic investment. With the regard to make domestic investment, the dispute had increased even in the modeling.
Earlier, LMW prepared Boot model with the purpose to transfer to Nepal after 30 years. This time Ministry has planned to conduct global tender to prefer the company. If EPC model is picked then the government does not have to raise investment.
Pokhara International Airport is being constructed in EPC model. Ministry of Tourism will send proposal to Ministry and after the decision is made by ministry the model will be selected too.
The government is preparing for the construction of the first and second phase of the airport for the past long time. There will be 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide and double runway.
All the advanced wide body aircraft can be conduct flights.
There will be 6 boarding gates along with 34 check in counters, 6 security checks 34 inspections and 8 custom checks counters in airport terminal which can welcome 6 million passengers annually.
