Ministry forms investigation team for Manang Air tail rotor strike accident at Hilsa

Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has formed a 4 member team on August 17, 2018, for the investigation of the tail rotor strike incident at Simikot which took life of a person identified as Mr. Narendra Kumar Kartik Mehta from India.

The AS350B3e (H125) chopper belonging to Manang Air landed Hilsa on 14th August at 3:15 pm local time with 5 Indian nationals and one Nepali on board. All the passengers disembarked safely from the helicopter except Mr. Meheta who walked towards the tail rotor despite the warnings from the security personnel and airline staffs and got struck by the rotor resulting in instant death.

The four-member team includes Joint Secretary of MoCTCA Mr. Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, Chief Captain Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, Chief engineer Bharat Parajuli and Er. Yogesh Aryal from MoCTCA.

The committee must submit the investigation report within 30 days under the supervision of Civil Aviation (Investigation of Accident) Regulation, 2071.

CAAN has instructed Manang Air to completely stop flight operation until further notice.

This accident has alarmed authorities on taking initiatives for preventing such incidents. So, CAAN has issued a temporary suspension order until an investigation is concluded by the authorities.
