Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister (MoCTCA) is preparing to finalize the construction modality of Dhumberwana International Airport at Nijgadh, the second international airport (SIA) and national pride project of Nepal.
A joint meeting between MoCTCA Minister, Finance Minister, Secretary, National Planning Commission (NPC) and investment board was conducted at the ministry regarding the modality finalization for SIA. The meeting has concluded to invite the Letter of Interest (LOI) for the construction modality.
Previously, a discussion was made to opt for a Public-Private Partnership model (PPP). On Speaking to the Parliament, Minister Adhikari said that the government had been discussing the modality for the construction and had already received the environmental impact assessment report from experts.
MoCTCA has also requested approval from the Ministry of Forest and Environment to cut down trees for construction of SIA.
Buddhi Sagar Lammichhane, Joint Secretary of Tourism Ministry stated that Ministry has asked for permission to cut down trees although the Detailed Project report (DPR) was not prepared for the first phase. Honorable Minister for MoCTCA Mr. Rabindra Adhikari has also emphasized to boost up the national pride project.
Tourism Minister has proposed some foreign investors for construction and operation of Nijgadh Airport.
