Six ministers, including Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattrai, resigned from the position, voicing disappointment with the House of Representatives’ dissolution. Yogesh Bhattarai has served as Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation since July 31, 2019.
Who is Yogesh?
Yogesh Bhattarai, a young Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) leader, was born in Sanghu, Taplejung, on September 6, 1966. Born as the youngest son of Bhim Lal Bhattarai’s father and Mahendra Devi Bhattarai’s mother, Yogesh holds a MA in Anthropology and Sociology.
His tendency for progressive politics increased when he was in college. The parents of the family were all from leftist traditions. In this background, in 1980, he introduced himself on the ANFSU. At the time, Bhattarai served on the campus’s preliminary committee and the campus committee.
Bhattarai, who had political contact with the CPN (UML) since 1982, has been serving without any disagreement in the party’s cell committee. Leader Bhattarai became ANFSU’s president in 1994.
Similarly, the Eighth General Convention of the CPN (UML), held in Butwal in March 2008, named him as a member of the Central Committee. He was chosen by the Ninth General Convention of the then UML as Secretary of the party.
