Malaysian Airlines Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway; No injuries reported

A Malaysian Airlines plane skidded off the runway during a heavy downpour at Sibu Airport on Saturday, April 8. The flight was carrying 61 passengers and 6 crew member from Kuala Lumpur.

All passengers and crews on board flight MH2718 were safely evacuated via two slide rafts. Malaysian Airlines posted that there were no any injuries reported so far.

There was no any incoming flight during the incident. Sibu Airport is expected to be closed for flight operations until the crash site is cleared.

According to Sibu Airport manager Zainuddin Abu Nasir, the safety of all passengers was of the utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines and an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
