Lukla Airport also known as Tenzing–Hillary Airport rated as the most extreme airport in the world has seen some considerable improvement in its infrastructure and facilities.
Yogendra Kunwar, an official of Lukla airport stated that the authority is working in upgrading the equipment of airport as Meteorological Information Display and FLIGHT RADAR24 was installed recently in the aim of making flight operation safe, reliable, routine, and pragmatic. Hotline communication facility has also been established.

Similarly, the authority has invited bids for renovation of Terminal building and helipad. Kunwar said, ‘we are preparing for the expansion of helipad which will be capable to hold more than a dozen of helicopters at once.’

The beauty of airport has increased greatly after painting Terminal building, Departure and Arrival building and gardening on the edge of Apron without affecting flights operation.

Three seater steel chairs have been added in the waiting room for making passengers comfortable from the budget of ANS Directorate.
Currently, only 4 helicopters can be parked. For the last five years, Fiber cable of Nepal Telecom and Nepal Electricity Authority nearby of Fencing of Helipad, has removed along with thick wire to enhance safe operation at helipad. Likewise the technical study is being carried out to enlarge the 527 meters runway by 20-50 meters.
Location has been prepared for the purpose of installing Solar Panel connection to provide reliable electricity to the airport. Though the airport faces electricity supply problems nevertheless by the end of October, 2018 22 kilo watts solar panel is planned to be inaugurated.
He also informed that periphery road construction work has been completed. Fire Prevention and Protection with Demonstration and Awareness, AFISOM Seminar, Airside and Ramp Operation Safety Field Based Training has been conducted successfully.
In the coming future, Lukla airport will be facilitated with lighting system in the runway. Kunwar claimed that Lukla airport will be the well facilitated airport among the other airport of Nepal in future.
