Locals complain over the use of low quality materials for Thamkharka airport project

Locals of Khotang have placed complain against the use of low quality material in construction of Thamkharka Airport at Khotang-5.

The contract of airport was given to Rautaha Construction Pvt. Ltd. to construct 630 meter length and 20 meter wide runway pitch, 850 meter drain and 945 meter wall structure.

CAAN have projected 10 crore 60 lacs and 71 thousand rupees requirement for expenditure, said Airport project chief engineer Ratna Bahadur Shrestha. The project was contracted in 2073 Asoj 20 with agreement to complete by last of this fiscal year. However, with around 3 months left only 60% work has been completed.

The locals complained for delay in work along with use of low quality material and have pointed towards negligence of Contractor Company. The VDC head Pradip Rai says that while constructing Drain and walls of Airport, non-quality sand and cement were used.

The contractor company gave sub contract to others who are not responsible to work. Engineer Shrestha said that after the complaint monitoring was done which showed fault in sand used which is now been improved.

Mahesh Regmi, who is also involved in construction, said that construction work is paced up to reach the aimed target. It is informed that concerned authority will be notified and as the time frame of the work is near the end, extra time won’t be allowed at any cost.
