Due to snowfall, Juphal airport located at Dolpa has been out of operation since 3 days.
According to Civil Aviation Authority of Juphal, the airport has been out of operation after a thick snow of the airport zone has failed to melt.
The flight operation was closed on Tuesday (January 22) due to heavy snowfall whereas the airport could not resume its operation on the next day (January 23) following heavy rain.
BalKumar Singh, Chief of Civil Aviation Authority of Juphal stated that there was no flight from Nepalgunj airport since 3 days when the snow could not melt.
After the closure of Juphal airport, only one means of transportation for local people travelling to other places have stopped and scarcity of daily consumable goods has been observed.
After the Juphal airport has remained out of operation for long time, the passenger arc has increased. The passengers have complained about not being able to reach their destinations at time after the closure of flight operation.
Civil Aviation Authority of Juphal informed that there is a high chance of resuming flight operation from today (Friday) if the snow melts properly,
Juphal Airport is the only airport in Dolpa district that has been providing flight operations since 42 years and came into operation lately after several closure.
At present Nepal Airlines conducts a scheduled flight each week with the Twin Otter aircraft to Juphal. Similarly, Tara Air, Summit Air and Makalu Air are conducting charter and cargo flight on a regular basis.
