Jomsom airport has been conducting less flights since first week of December due to unfavorable weather and tourist off seasons. There is high possibility of cancelling flight operation in upcoming days due to the chances of snowfall at the mountainous region.
At present, two to three flights are being operated at Jomsom Airport on a daily basis. The arrival of tourists at Mustang has plummeted and almost 70 percent hotels in Jomsom have been closed for the winter.
The Jomsom Airport’s flight operation has been completed for today as Tara Air already conducted two flights today morning.
Tara Air Twin Otter DHC-6-400 ‘9N-AKL’ short final to Jomsom Airport
Tara Air flight flying to Jomsom was diverted to Pokhara due to northerly wind yesterday. The flight was scheduled from Pokhara to Jomsom but was compelled to land back to Pokhara after the vibrant wind phenomena disrupted the aircraft to safely land at Jomsom Airport.
According to Jomsom airport official, Tara Air’s 9N-AKL Twin Otter DHC 6-400 was diverted around 9:30 am morning after unfavorable wind was reported. The pilot tried to land after going one round but still suffered same situation.
The weather was reported well in Pokhara but when the aircraft was in Tatopani after taking off from Pokhara, the turbulence was reported through High frequency radio when VHF failed to reach. No any flights happened later that day.
