Jets collide, crew survives
27 May 2016 – WASHINGTON: The crew members of two US Navy warplanes were rescued after their jets collided while on a training mission off the coast of North Carolina, authorities said on Thursday. The US Coast Guard said a fishing vessel rescued the four survivors from the sea following the collision at around 10:30am (1430 GMT).
A Coast Guard helicopter then hoisted the crew off the boat and took them to a hospital. Navy spokesman Ensign Marc Rockwellpate said the two F/A-18s were on a routine training run when they were involved in an “in-flight mishap” off Cape Hatteras. “A safety investigation will be carried out to determine the cause,” he said.
