Investigation Report of UH-1Y Huey Has Been Submitted To Government Of Nepal
On May 12, 2015 The UH-1Y Huey helicopter belonging to US Marines serving for the earthquake victims while carrying out flight near Charikot area, Dolakha crashed in the hills at the altitude of 11,000 ft. All the 13 passengers along with crew members passed away in tragic crash. After the crash, investigation team led by Nepal Army officials and US experts was set up immediately for probing the cause of crash.
Today, the final report of investigation has been handed over to Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Kripasur Sherpa. According to the report, topography of kalinchowk hill range of dolakha and bad weather are the probable causes behind the crash. While the helicopter was flying through the cloud at an altitude of 11,200 ft it ultimately struck the hill and crashed. Pilots were unaware of terrain of Nepal.
Investigation team has also suggested some safety measures to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and government of Nepal for avoiding such tragic crash in near future.
