Installation of Two new radar System at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and Bhatte Danda in Lalitpur have resumed. The Installation had been affected by the April 25 Earthquake and subsequent fuel shortages.
The projects is planned to complete before monsoon and the radar will be in operation by Nov-Dec 2016.
It is a TIA modernization project where there is a grant of Rs. 906 million from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This New second generation Mode S Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) system at Tribhuvan International Airport will replace existing eighteen year old radar. The existing radar was installed in 1997 with Japan grant.
As per the source, The Bhatter Danda Radar system will be for en-route aircraft and the TIA MSSR system for terminal approach aircraft.
The new MSSR system will have high coverage to Dang in west , entire country in East, North and South.
