In yet another revealing incident of gold smuggling via Kathmandu airport, police have arrested a man in possession of half kilogram gold that he was allegedly smuggling hiding it in a diaper.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range and Airport Security Unit arrested Lila Bahadur Basnet, a permanent resident of Morang district in eastern Nepal, in possession of the yellow metal.
Basnet had landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport after spending three years in Qatar for a job.
DSP Hobindra Bogati stated that; he had hidden the ring-shaped gold pieces under buttons of the diaper.
In his statements to police, Basnet said another Nepali man had asked him to take the diaper to the concerned family and he was not aware of gold hidden in it. Further investigation is under process.
Carrying a huge amount of gold is not permitted through air transport and is considered illegal. Normal passengers cannot take gold except for their personal use.
Previously too such incidents of gold capture had occurred and a big question arises for the airport authority to find out who was lethal on the crimes happening at the airport.
