GBIA grabs full pace of construction

Construction of National pride project Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahwa is going in full pace and first phase of blacktopping of around 1 kilometer of runway has been completed.

Chinese company Northwest Civil Aviation Airport Construction group has been constructing the airport and the project cost has been expected to be 6.22 billion Nepalese Rupees. If the work continues in current pace, the runway is expected to come into operation from June/July of 2019.

The first phase of blacktopping is expected to be complete within 45 days and the 2nd and 3rd phase of blacktopping will take another 15-15 days respectively.

Currently the contractor company has been using more than a dozen of the equipment for runway work and other infrastructure of the airport like terminal building, control tower, fire rescue station, safety personnel station etc. is also being constructed gradually.

The construction of the taxiway has already been completed and after the completion of 3000 meter runway, the project will be completed by 70%.

The airport is stated to be alternative to country’s sole international airport Tribhuvan International airport (TIA) and aircraft up to Boeing 777-200 series can be operated from the airport.

Tender for installation of Communication and Navigation system has also been called-up and the process is expected to be completed in near future and completion of Terminal building and construction of Cargo building has also been put forwarded.

The government has been prioritizing on the airport and has been working on its completion in order to aid in “Tourism year-2020” to bring around 2 million tourist in the country.
