Gautam Bhuddha Airport – Construction begun
Gautam Bhuddha Airport, Bhairahawa has begun upgrading its runway. After completion it will be able to handle large body aircraft and serve as an alternate runway to Tribhuvan International Airport.
According to the project deputy director, Om Sharma, “The airport will be constructed according to Tribhuvan International Airport standards. The overall load bearing capacity, runway length and breadth will be similar to the TIA.”The estimated runway will be about 3000 meter in length, 300 meter in breadth and 135 cm high.
CAAN initiated the project with an initial investment of 6 arab and 22 crore rupees. The authorities hope to finish the project by December, 2017. The runway is being constructed maintaining all international standards. The runway alone will cost about 51% of total capital.
