Four Pillars Are Only The 18 years Progress Of Construction of Nijgadh International Airport (NIA)

Nepal’s second international airport, Nijgadh International Airport (NIA) , which is to be constructed till now has been very passive. Even 1% of construction work haven’t been completed yet. Within 18 years of inaguration, neither the necessary paperworks have been carried out nor the tendor has been provided for the construction of NIA.

The construction of NIA which is nation’s ongoing project of pride is expected to be operated by 2020. It will be an alternative for Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA). With the increase in airtraffic density, Nepal needs to possess another International Airport as an alternative to manage the airtraffic, to handle more passengers as well as to reduce the burdens which are being faced by TIA. From 18 years of commencement of construction of NIA, only the area for second international airport has been fixed with four pillars.

For construction of NIA, about 14 hundreds families need to be rehabitated and compensation must be allocated by government of Nepal. After the completion of construction of NIA, it will have 3 storied terminal building, parallel runways and will be able to handle 60 millions passengers annually. Lets see whether the airport will be completed on time or not.
