Foul smell from plane’s toilet caused SpiceJet flight to divert

March 7,2017

SpiceJet’s Boeing 737 en route to New Delhi from Bengaluru had to make an unscheduled stop in Hyderabad on Sunday. There was a foul smell wafting from the plane’s toilet which forced staff and passengers to halt their journey. The operating flight SG 192 was carrying 184 passengers and four infants.

The flight crew declared the diversion was mandatory due to an extreme pungent smell arising from one of the toilets and coming to the cockpit. The cause of the smell is unknown as the airline did not disclose any information.

It took an hour for cleaning crew to remove the smell. Later the plane was allowed to continue its journey.  After the cockpit and toilet being ventilated at Hyderabad, the plane touched down at Delhi one hour behind the schedule.
