FNCCI requests not to close Dhanagdi airport

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI)- Far East State Committee has requested not to cancel flight operation at Dhangadi airport.

Shankar Bogati, President of FNCCI issuing a Press release on Thursday (March 2) stated that the announcement of closing Dhanagdi Airport for a month has brought a worry in the association.

Due to the closure of the airport for one month, the patients including general citizens and other services will also be affected directly of this area, said FNCCI.

Previously, Dhangadi Airport announced to suspend all flights operation for accommodating the runway rehabilitation project.

The meeting held at the airport has concluded to close Dhangadi Airport from May 6 to June 4 ( Baisakh 22- Jestha 21) following the blacktopping project of the runway.

Likewise, the private airlines companies also declared to increase flight frequencies at Nepalgunj airport following Dhangadi airport closure for a period of one month for accommodating the runway rehabilitation project.

The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) informed that two proposals came after the board published the deadline of 7th Baisakh. The time has now been extended to another 1 month.

Dhangadhi Regional Airport will feature 3000 meters long and 60-meter wide runway while the taxiway will be of length 1800 meter and width 23 meters. Dhangadhi Airport is the only big airport situated in the far western region which has facilitated citizens of 9 districts.

With 30 meters wide and 1800 meters long blacktopped runway, it is the airport with the second long runway, after the Tribhuvan International Airport and it is also getting planned to be upgraded to an international airport, making Nepal’s fourth international airport.
