Due to decrease in temperature resulting adverse weather in Jomsom, there is decrease in flight frequency at Jomsom Airport.
According to the airport officials, there is high possibility of halting flight operation in upcoming days due to the chances of snowfall at the mountainous region. He also informed that at present, two to three flights are being operated at Jomsom Airport on daily basis.
Previously, the airport remained out of operation nearly for a week following adverse weather conditions.
Jomsom Airport mostly get disrupted due to adverse weather phenomena. Due to geographical situation, the airport does not operate after 12 o’clock. Moreover, if Pokhara Airport faces any problem during flight operation then all the flights to Jomsom gets affected directly.
However, the government has planned to facilitate Jomsom Airport with the technology and infrastructure.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has initiated necessary renovation works at Jomsom Airport. Engineer Puspa Raj Neupane stated that CAAN has allocated NRs. 9 Crore for renovation of Jomsom Airport and the renovation project is being carried out by “Apex Construction” and has already started first phase work.
Similarly, the alternate way to reach Jomsom is the roadway. The roadway is getting managed and blacktopped for the tourists.
Jomsom Airport is a STOL airport located on the bank of the Kali Gandaki River serving Jomsom, a town in the Mustang District of Province No. 4 in Nepal, and the Mustang District. It serves as the gateway to the Mustang District that includes Jomsom, Kagbeni, Tangbe, and Lo Manthang, and to Muktinath temple, which is a popular pilgrimage for Nepalese and Indians.
