A South Korean aircraft which was a part of flight display at Asia’s largest Aerospace and Defense event- Singapore Airshow skidded on runway and crashed into a grass verge catching fire during takeoff at Changi Airport on the opening day i.e. 6th February at Singapore.
Changi Airport clarified in a statement that the incident took place on Runway 1 at approximately 1.30 pm. The pilot was sent to the airport clinic for a check-up and has suffered only minor injuries.
The Airport Emergency Service put out the fire but the runway was closed for several hours, delaying a “number of flights”. Later in afternoon it was removed and the operation continued normally though some delays to departure and arrival flights were still be expected.
The aircraft belongs to South Korean Air Force aerobatic demonstration team, the Black Eagles, which was taking part in an aerial display at the Airshow.
