Exemption Granted to Biratnagar Airport

Aerodrome Safety Standards Department from Sinamangal, Kathmandu published notice on 16 April regarding the granting of exemption to Biratnagar Airport.

Despite being unable to fulfill some airport requirements, Biratnagar airport has been granted exemption upto ten years for renovation.

According to the audit finding of TIA, Biratnagar Airport has inadequate separation between runway and taxiway. Also the width of runway strip at runway 27 is not as per CAR (Civil Aviation Rgulations)-14, Part 1 (required 150 mt. either side, available NE 106 mt., SE 94 mt., SW after 75 mt. at runway 09).

The CAAN’s spokesperson Birendra Prasad Shrestha said that the information related to the granting of exemption to Biratnagar Airport has been published on AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication). He added that the exemption is granted for 10 years (upto 14 March 2027) and the airlines operating to the airport should acknowledge the notice published.
