Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has scheduled emergency exercise drill at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on 23rd June at 16:00 local time with the participation of respective bodies from flight operation department.
According to the TIA Civil Aviation Office, the main goal of the drill is to enhance the mutual cooperation among the different airport emergency workers and to boost up the robustness in handling emergency situations. The emergency exercise drill will be conducted in the TIA aerodrome imagining the real emergency situation.
The spectators around the airport will see huge flames of black smoke during the drill along with the rush of ambulances, security personnel, fire brigades and many other emergency exercises. The airport authority will shut down the airport operation from 16:30 to 17:00 local time with publication of NOTAM (A Notice to Airmen).
The TIA Civil Aviation Authority said that they will be conducting the drill under the standard criteria of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and also want to aware the locals around the airport that it is just an emergency exercise drill.
